Prince Edward County has quickly become one of my favourite staycation spots in Ontario and it’s definitely my favourite spot to visit for a weekend of wine tasting! The County has the perfect mix of wineries to visit, from smaller, homegrown wineries to larger, more established spots.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll likely have seen that I’ve been spending a lot of time in The County this summer. As a result, I’ve been around the winery circuit a time or two and have curated a list of 12 favourite wineries that I think need to be on everyone’s list when they visit.

This list is a mix of large and small wineries with different specialities and offerings, so you’ll be able to get a little taste of everything PEC wineries have to offer.

Sandbanks Winery

17598 Loyalist Pkwy (Hwy 33), Wellington, Prince Edward County, ON

“Wine and cuisine always evolved together.” This was what one of the Sandbanks representatives told us during our barrel room tasting tour and it’s stuck with me since. I’ve been to Sandbanks a few times now. I’ve done their standard tasting, barrel room tasting, and just hangout with a glass. If it’s your first visit, I highlight recommend doing the barrel room tasting tour. You’ll getter a more in-depth knowledge of the wines and the winemaking process, plus you also get food pairings and a wine glass to take home!

Morandin Wines

18055 Loyalist Pkwy, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0

Morandin Wines is one of the youngest wineries in the county. This husband and wife duo produce small-batch wines that are grown and bottled onsite. Their simple and crisp labels first caught my attention initially, but after visiting their tasting patio, I fell in love with the charm of the winery. More importantly, I fell in love with the wine. Their Pinot Gris is my new favourite bottle. I also love their Rose, which is the perfect summer crowd-pleaser, and their Pinot Noir, which is a perfect red for those of us who don’t dabble in reds often.

Casa-Dea Estates Winery

1186 Greer Rd, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0

Casa Dea Estates planted its vineyards in 2001 and we are currently the largest planting of Vinifera grapes in the County with 65 acres under vine. Along with the winery they also have a restaurant, banquet hall and Bocce Courts, making this the perfect spot to spend a summer afternoon!

Hinterland Wine Company

1258 Closson Road RR#1Hillier, Ontario

If you love sparkling wine, you need to visit Hinterland Winery. While they’re not the only sparkling wine producers in the region, it’s all that they do and they do it exceedingly well. They use three different methods to produce their bubbly: the classic-method, the charmat-method, and the ancestral method. The Charmat method produces my favourite two wines from Hinterland: their Whitecap and a dry, fruity rose known as the Borealis.

Grange of Prince Edward

990 Closson Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0

The Grange gives off some serious woodsy, fairytale vibes and I am so here for it. All of the wines at Grange Winery are grown on the estate in Prince Edward County, and their tasting room is so cozy that you will definitely want to stay a while. My brother was a big fan of their spiced white wine, which seriously tastes like fall in a glass.

Closson Chase Vineyards

629 Closson Rd, Hillier, Ontario

Closson Chase is a quality-driven producer that has helped spearhead the birth of the Prince Edward County wine industry using centuries-old European traditions & sustainable, innovative techniques to create world class wines using only the finest Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes.

Huff Estates

2274 Prince Edward County Rd 1, Bloomfield, ON K0K 1G0

Huff Estates is a state-of-the-art facility with guest rooms onsite. Complete with indoor/outdoor patio, serving lunches May long weekend through Thanksgiving and live music every Sunday through the summer season.

Karlo Estates Winery

561 Danforth Rd, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0

Karlo Estates Winery is famous for their one-of-a-kind wine tasting experiences, held in the welcoming atmosphere of their 1805 post and beam barn. Their property is charming and welcoming, and features one of the only remaining dry stone bridges in the province – perfect for snapping a photo at! Karlo is also certified vegan, meaning there are no animal proteins added to reduce tannins. My favourites from here is The Three Witches, a dry, white, old world blend of three grapes.

Waupoos Eastate Winery

3016 Prince Edward County Rd 8, Picton, ON K0K 2T0

Waupoos Estates Winery was the first winery in Prince Edward County. The vineyards were first planted in 1993 with an experimental mindset to see what would grow in this area. As the vines continued to thrive, more varieties were planted – Waupoos now has 20 acres of established vineyards growing 18 different varieties.

Rosehall Run Winery

1243 Greer Rd, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0

One of the earliest Prince Edward County wineries, planting of the vineyard began in 2001 with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today there are 25 acres of vinifera including Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Tempranillo. This winery is most loved for its variety of roses, if you couldn’t already tell by its name!

Three Dog Winery

1920 Fish Lake Rd, Picton, ON K0K 2T0

Located at the eastern edge of The County, Three Dog Winery has a unique outdoor set up where guests can enjoy a picnic lunch while you sample their wines or stroll the picturesque trails.  Their wines are approachable and easy drinking and our tasting room is warm and inviting.

The Old Third Vineyard

251 Closson Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0

Old Third is a high density vineyard and winery in the heart of Prince Edward County. They produce unfined and unfiltered pinot noir, cabernet franc and chardonnay, as well as ciders. Their rustic, barn-style tasting room is gorgeous and absolutely worth a visit!
