Checking In: The Perry Hotel Key West

During my very first visit to Key West this summer I had the opportunity to stay at the beautiful Perry Hotel on Stock Island.

Inspired by Commodore Perry, the father of the United States Navy, The Perry Hotel’s easy, laid-back atmosphere has been thoughtfully cultivated to stay true to the seafaring roots of Old Key West.

The Location

The Perry Hotel is located at 7001 Shrimp Road, Stock Island Florida.

Being on Stock Island, the hotel is about five miles away from Duval Street where all the best nightlife in Key West happens. This is perfect for those looking for a quieter and relaxing getaway, but if you are looking to get to the heart of Key West more often, you’ll have to drive back and forth.

The hotel is located right on the marina, which I personally loved as it gave off true watermen vibes. There was really nothing cooler than being able to sip on a beer in the pool right next to some of the most incredible boats in Key West. The Marina Village neighborhood is a vibrant and unique area of Key West that makes you feel right at home in a small community, which can be a nice break from the craziness of Old Town Key West.

The Rooms

This hotel room may just be the most beautiful, comforting, and aesthetic hotel room that I have ever stayed in. The blend of contemporary and rustic furnishings mixed in with casual summer décor gave the room an effortlessly beachy vibe that I am dying to replicate in my own home one day.

The room was incredibly spacious and offered super-comfy beds, a large workspace, an oversized private balcony, and tons of amenities such as a Keurig coffee machine and fully stocked mini bar and snack bar. I highly recommend opting for a marina view room so that you can enjoy the spectacular Stock Island views right from bed! Select rooms at the Perry also offer private outdoor showers.

Amenities

The hotel features a fitness centre, waterfront swimming pool, dog parks, on-site bike rentals, and direct access to the marina and ocean with water activities available to book on-site.

Additionally, the hotel features live music every weekday at the Salty Oyster Bar & Grill, the hotel’s poolside bar and dining option. This was my absolute favourite thing about my stay at The Perry Key West; I loved being able to relax next to the pool at the end of the day with a delicious beverage while listening to local performers absolutely crush it.

Dining

The Perry Hotel has two delicious on-site dining options that I visited very frequently during my short stay.

Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar serves up American Coastal Comfort Food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ingredients here speak for themselves and the focus is on fresh, local dishes. If you’re a fisherman, you can even bring in your own catch and Matt’s Stock Island can prepare it for you however you’d like! My favourite thing about Matt’s Stock Island was their breakfast. They had a ton of breakfast options and served coffee in a giant carafe, which I loved sipping while overlooking the marina every morning.

The Salty Oyster Dockside Bar & Grill is the outdoor dining option at The Perry, located poolside and right next to the marina. Salty Oyster offers fresh fare and tasty drinks in a comfortable atmosphere. This was my go-to spot for happy hour as I got to soak up the sunshine while enjoying half priced dishes and drinks.

Final Thoughts

The Perry Key West is truly the perfect option for anyone looking to have a quiet, laid-back holiday in Key West. Stock Island is a really beautiful neighborhood in Key West that often gets overlooked by those heading straight for the action on Duval Street. Plus, the free shuttle service into Old Town is the ultimate touch as parking in Key West can be very expensive and usually difficult to find, so even when you do want to leave to experience some of the traditional Key West nightlife, The Perry has got you covered.

The best part about this hotel is that you're getting a luxury accommodation experience, without the luxury price tag. The Perry Key West was reasonably priced while providing high-end amenities and services that would normally increase the cost of a night beyond the limits of my own budget. You can't really go wrong with an affordable waterfront property in Key West like this!

Book your stay at The Perry Hotel Key West for as low as $123/night.
