I love Disney. I’m twenty years old and still a firm believer that Disney World is the most magical place on earth. I’ve visited stunning places like Paris, Rome, and Hawaii, and still believe Lake Buena Vista Drive in Orlando, Florida is the happiest place on Earth. I still get giddy when I meet the life sized characters and am sincerely bummed out that they don’t sell adult sized princess costumes. Naturally, being the big kid that I am, I needed to make a stop at Hong Kong Disneyland while I was in Asia. I’d like to start with a disclaimer, that if you’ve been to THE Disney World in Orlando, every other Disneyland is going to fall short of it. I’ve now visited Disneyland California and Disneyland Hong Kong and can tell you that neither of the two even holds a candle to the magic and wonder of the Walt Disney World resort.

Nevertheless, I’m a Disney fanatic and still love experiencing the magic around the world and seeing what these other resorts have to offer. Hong Kong Disneyland can be completed in about half a day, so plan your itinerary accordingly. There’s just not enough in the park to fill an entire days worth of adventure, but that’s not a problem since the city of Hong Kong in itself is extremely exciting and beautiful. Now let’s get into this guide I’ve compiled of everything to see and do in Hong Kong Disneyland.
Getting There
Hong Kong Disneyland is located very close to Hong Kong International Airport, also making it perfect for a quick visit during a layover! Most airport hotels offer free shuttles to Disneyland, but you can also take the MTR to Sunny Bay Station and then switch to the Disneyland Resort Line if you’re coming from downtown. Tickets are roughly $75 Canadian dollars per adult.

Attractions
I’ll be honest, Hong Kong Disneyland, much like the California Disneyland resort is catered more towards younger kids and doesn’t really offer many thrilling “big kid” rides like Disney World does. However, there are still a few that will get your heart racing, and the lines are nowhere near as long here! Be sure to check out these favourites during your visit:

• Space Mountain
  My personal fave, this indoor rollercoaster is a clone of the original at Walt Disneyworld, but this version gets extra points for the unique Launch Port area with glowing planetoids overhead.
• Big Grizzly Mountain
  This ride is pretty much a watered down version of Big Thunder Mountain and Expedition Everest and one of the more thrilling adventures at Disneyland Hong Kong.
• Teacups
  Pretty similar to the teacups at any other Disney resort, this is just a classic must see attraction; just make sure you don’t do it right after breakfast!
• Mystic Manor
  This stunning dark ride tour is similar to the Haunted Mansion ride at Walt Disney World. It’s a perfect attraction to sit back and cool off from the warm Hong Kong weather.
• It’s a Small World
  Another classic, this ride was the first version to feature Disney animated characters and is the longest version of the ride, featuring unique scenes not found in any other parks.
• RC Racer
  One of the newer rides and dubbed the “biggest thrill” of Hong Kong Disneyland, this ride is certainly big kid approved.

Tips

• To beat the crowds visit Hong Kong Disneyland at park opening on a weekday. The crowds are always smaller during the week and the park doesn’t open until 10am, so being there right when the park opens is definitely attainable.
• Watch the shows. Because the park is much smaller and doesn’t have as many rides, you’ll find yourself standing around pretty soon with nothing to do. Take advantage of some of the unique shows such as Festival of the Lion King and the Golden Mickeys.
• Pick up a map. The park has seven “lanes” its divided into but certain areas are frequently under construction and may be closed, so it’s helpful to know which areas are actually open to enjoy while you’re there.
• The Flight of Fantasy Parade and the Paint the Night Parade are other experiences unique to Hong Kong Disneyland and another option to fill the time during your visit.
• Be sure to check out the firework spectacular at Hong Kong Disney; it’s another classic must-see for any Disney resort.
• Don’t forget to take your stereotypical insta-worthy, tourist pictures in front of the castle and with the characters!
