In today’s post, I’m going to be talking about a really incredible subscription box service that I recently had the chance to try. I’ll start off by saying that I’m typically not a huge fan of subscription boxes; generally, I think they’re pretty tacky, wasteful, and there’s nothing that I could possibly need regularly enough to justify buying one. However, this particular box may have changed my opinion of subscription boxes for good.

The subscription box that I’m talking about is by the company GlobeIn. GlobeIn is an amazing company that’s making a difference in the lives of local artisans all around the world. GlobeIn’s mission is simple, as stated on their website:

“We deliver joy by empowering and connecting remarkable, remote artisans to mindful customers.”

Their brand sources unique, authentic products from local artisans all around the world and then curates the products into different “themed” boxes. Some themes include the “Tea Party Box”, the “Tasting Box”, and the “Refresh Box”. Each box features 4-5 different items from all around the world that fit into the specific theme of that box.

$10 OFF GlobeIn Artisan Box (WELCOME)

Take the box that I tried for example, this was the “Cheers Box” and included the following items:

  • Confetti champagne flutes from Mexico
  • Metallic paper garland from Nepal
  • Elephant poo greeting card from Sri Lanka
  • Mini palm leaf basket from Mexico
  • Make a wish box from India

Confetti champagne flutes (Mexico)

I had to start with my favourite item – these beautiful glasses were the reason that I chose this themed box. These beautiful glasses are handblown in Mexico by a local artisan by the name of Tomas.

Besides the stunning design, what I love most about these glasses is that they aren’t flimsy champagne flutes. They’re a bit thicker and heavier than your traditional flute, but then again these are no traditional flute. The handblown design is unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before – I cannot wait to pull these out at my next special occasion!

Metallic paper garland (Nepal)

This paper garland is handmade by women in Nepal. They use the bark from the Daphne plant, which only grows in the foothills of the Himalayas. After the paper itself is made, the garlands are strung together by women artisans and their families. This is the perfect piece to add some joy into any room in your house, or to use as decoration for a special event.

Elephant poo greeting card (Sri Lanka)

I’d never heard of elephant poo greeting cards until I received this box, but damn, this is a cool one. Since an elephant’s diet is purely vegetarian, their waste is basically raw cellulose, able to be cleaned and processed into a fine, acid-free paper. The inventive product came from Mr. Ellie Pooh, who is aiming to bring awareness to elephant conservation in the country and show that humans and elephants can co-exist on this planet.

Mini palm leaf basket (Mexico)

This cute little palm leaf basket is made by a young woman named Emilia who lives in Mexico. Emilia has dreams of pursuing a career as a public works engineer and is using her incredible weaving talents to get her there. By purchasing one of her weaved baskets, you’ll be directly supporting her university tuition fund!

Make a wish box (India)

The last item in this box was the “make a wish” box. This box was crafted in India by local woodcarvers. The woodcarving tradition in India has deep roots and by supporting the tradition, you’re helping to keep the local culture alive. I have this box now sitting on my bookshelf where I’ve slipped in some of my New Year’s resolutions and goals for the end of the year. In January, I’ll open it up again and see if I’ve accomplished all that I set out to do this year!

I was thoroughly impressed with the diverse array of items in the box, the unique curated themes, and most of all, GlobeIn’s commitment to supporting and empowering local artisans.

This subscription box is truly my favourite one that I’ve ever come across. It’s perfect for any conscious consumers who want to experience the world (without leaving their home!) and make a difference at the same time.

The artisans that GlobeIn partners with are based in developing countries where, after agriculture, artisan goods are the second-largest source of employment. By subscribing to a GlobeIn box, you are directly helping to reduce poverty by giving these artisans and their communities a global audience.

You can actually see the difference that your purchase is making by visiting GlobeIn’s “Impact” page. For example, by purchasing one of GlobeIn’s “Cozy Box’s” you’re helping to employ 85,000 farmers in Ghana, providing 840 hours of flexible employment for 12 artisans in Thailand, and providing the equivalent of a full year of employment for 6 workers.

GlobeIn’s premium subscription boxes start at $60 and are filled with at least $70 worth of beautifully made products from around the world. Their essential subscription boxes start at just $10 a month and give you a credit to choose a unique add-on product at an exclusive member price, or receive the monthly surprise item. You also have the option to add on additional items to your subscription, or just shop for individual items without subscribing.
