Seafood can be confusing.

For many, the ocean is out of sight and out of mind.

But these common seafood myths, exaggerated by the media about seafood consumption, are simply untrue.

Seafood is a luxury food item.

Seafood is the most affordable and accessible protein on the planet. It used to be considered the poor man’s food. Today, it can be enjoyed on any budget.

All aquaculture is bad.

Aquaculture can be very sustainable. Some forms of aquaculture, like oyster farming, have a positive impact on the environment. In order to feed a growing population, we need aquaculture and wild capture fisheries.

The oceans will run out of fish by 2048.

This claim has been disproven and overturned by the scientists who initially made it. Recent assessments show fisheries management is improving and most fish stocks will be sustainable by 2050.
